The State Crest, also known as the National Coat of Arms was first launched on 3rd December
1959. It was launched together with the National Flag and the National Anthem at the installation of the
Yang di-Pertuan Negara at the steps of City Hall.
The State Crest is made up of s shield ornamented with the crescent and stars from our
National Flag against a red background. Red symbolizes brotherhood and equality of man, and
white symbolizes pervading and everlasting purity and virtue. The five stars
symbolizes the five
ideals of the nation, namely democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality. The shield is supported
by a lion on the left and a tiger on the right. Underneath the banner is the National Motto - Majulah Singapura.
The lion on the State Crest stands for Singapore and the tiger stands for our nation's historical link
