Our History
Singapore Polytechnic has a history that goes back as far as
1954, the first and the oldest Polytechnic in Singapore. Not only has it
developed a fine tradition of technological trainings, it is also able to keep
abreast of the changing requirements of the industry. Every students graduated
from Singapore are trained to meet the challenges posed by the society and to
excel in the knowledge-intensive and technologically advanced economy of the
future.
Currently, 34 full-time and part-time diploma courses, 27 post
diploma courses and 2 full-time advanced diploma courses are available. These
courses vary from information technology to biotechnology, computing,
engineering, business, maritime studies, optometry and e-commerce.
Initially situated right in the center of a financial
district, now it has moved to a more strategic location at Dover Road, at the
western part of Singapore. Further more with the completion of the
classy-looking Dover MRT station, it is more accessible than ever.
Having close to 115,000 graduates, they have contributed
significantly to the growth and development of Singapore’s society. Many of
them are now well-known entrepreneurs, while many others hold key positions of
responsibility and leadership in the industry, business and public organizations.
Despite being the oldest Polytechnic, the pioneering spirit
is very much kept alive. Signs of development and re-developments are proof to
that. Facilities are also kept up to date and well equipped to ensure that
students get the most exposure to the skills and tools used currently in the
industry so that they will not lose out.
Development and change are not limited to just the physical,
our philosophy and leadership also provides the direction for a clear vision
ahead.
