Beth
|
|
Character Name: |
Beth |
Numeric Value: |
2 |
English Transliteration: |
bh, b |
Signification of Character Name: |
House |
A dot (dagesh) in the center of the character makes Beth take on a hard 'b' as in boy rather than the 'v' sound it carries without the dagesh. An example is the Hebrew word "beth" (house) which is pronounced like the english word "bait" and spelled beth-tav, with a dagesh in the beth. The Hebrew word "ahv" (or awe-v) meaning "father" is spelled aleph-beth, and the beth has no dagesh.
